The Vestry of St. Alban's
The Vestry is the body of lay leaders whose primary responsibility is to oversee the property and finances of the church. Our officers are elected for one year terms (with 3 year term limits).  Our Vestry members are elected for three year terms.  Terms are staggered so that 2 new Vestry members are elected every year.  Brief biographies of our current Vestry follow:
Dave Schmitter

David Schmitter, Senior Warden: David married the love of his life Kate in 2005.  He and Kate are very happy to have been welcomed into the family at St. Alban’s.  He received his PhD. in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics in August 2007 from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. His other interests (besides physics) include:  juggling, which he has done for 16 years (yes, he does fire and knives but not at the same time); spending time with his wife and making her laugh; cooking and cooking for people; music (mostly folk and rock); sports (NY Mets, NY Giants, Nebraska Football); laughing and trying to make others laugh. Dave has also recently found a passion for writing, check out his work on the St. Alban's Blog (stalbansri.blogspot.com).

Jill Shurtleff, Junior Warden: A member of St. Alban’s since 1987, Jill has been married to Rick for 27 years, and has two daughters, Dawn Marie and Amanda Lynne.  She enjoys working with youth and has been a dedicated volunteer in St. Alban’s youth ministry and Girl Scout troops for over 18 years, which, she believes, led to her job as a Cosmetology Instructor at Chariho Career & Technical Center for the last 6 years.
Currently, she volunteers as Parish Junior Warden, monthly newsletter editor, Episcopal Church Women member, and Youth Minister.

Linda Maynard, Parish Clerk

Linda Maynard, Parish Clerk: Linda started coming to St. Alban’s when her son was born in 1986.  She wanted him to grow up with an Episcopal background.  Then her daughter came along.  The church has been a very important part of her family ever since.  Her children are now in college.

Linda thought the best way she could help was to be a Sunday School teacher.  She is now Christian Education Director – because the most important thing to her is that children grow up believing in God.

Linda Strocky, Treasurer:

Vestry Member James Connors:

Vestry Member Mary Jane Hartley: Mary Jane joined the Vestry in 2009. She is a semi-retired mother of three wonderful sons and is the grandmother of one grandson and two step granddaughters. She is also blessed with a sister and family in Florida whom she visits often. Family, friends, church and knitting keep her life very busy and happy.

Vestry Member Cheryl Jackson: "Mother of Lynn Corwin and Grandmother to Eric Corwin, members of St. Albans.  I am an Administrator Assistant/Section 8 Coordinator at the Johnston Housing Authority where I have worked for almost  30 years.  I enjoy my work, especially with the elderly residents.  I am a Board Member of Tri-Town Community Action Agency, a member of the Juvenile Justice Hearing Board for Johnston/Smithfield ( which is an arm of the Family Court set up by Judge Jerimiah) and a member of the Johnston Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force.  I love the beach and also enjoy bowling and having fun with my friends in both my personal life and also St. Albans friends.  I also enjoy working at the food pantry with a very dedicated group of parishers.   I just turned 63 and I plan to continue working for at least a few more years hoping my health will continue as well.  My Dad always told me "Dear, if you have one true friend in your lifetime, consider yourself very fortunate".  I consider myself very, very blessed as I have many true friends in my life."

Vestry Member Ron Kershaw:

Pamela

Vestry Member Pamela Rakowski: “I moved here from Ann Arbor Michigan in 1986. After checking out two Catholic churches and not finding them very “friendly,” my neighbor suggested St. Alban. As soon as I walked in the door I felt comfortable and I have been here ever since 1988.
I was a Registered Nurse in Michigan, but when I got here and looked for a position akin to the one I had in Michigan, I found out there were none. I then followed my dreams of becoming a librarian. I went to school, graduated, and became a catalog librarian. My specialty is rare books.
I first started teaching Church School around 1989 when the 6th grade teacher had to leave. I taught 6th graders for about 3 years. The Confirmation teacher left St. Alban, so I began teaching Confirmation class. It has been a joy and a privilege to teach that class. It is a 2 year class so I not only teach religion but history, culture, social aspects etc. They all tie in together.
Right now (2011), besides Confirmation class, I am in the Vestry, on the Stewardship committee, and on the Christian Education Committee. I volunteer for other projects when I can. St. Alban became the right church for me and a place where I feel comfortable and needed, like a family.
Ice dancing is my passion right now. I skate 4 times a week. Last July 30, 2010, I won 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places in ice dancing at ISI Worlds in Marlborough, Ma. I am also treasurer of the John Russell Bartlett Society, a bibliophilic society that has programs on all the book arts. I do wilderness camping in the Adirondacks in the summer. I also do gardening, avidly read, walk or hike on non-skating days, and write poetry.”

Vestry Member Donna Martel: "I have been a member of St. Alban’s Parish since 2000.  I have been married to Chris for 15 years and have two wonderful children, Jill and Russell.  Two years ago my first granddaughter was born and is truly a great joy in my life.   I work as a medical transcriptionist, and I enjoy knitting, reading, Boston Red Sox and have a great love and appreciation of animals.   I am active in the Outreach and the ECW programs here, which I find is a way to give aid to the community from which I receive so much."
